Rainwater Harvesting System Design
Ecological Design provides a premium rainwater harvesting system design service. We have designed rainwater harvesting solutions for projects ranging from simple small domestic systems to the rainwater supply for a large residential meditation centre. When you commission Ecological Design to design your rain harvesting system you get:
|
There are three stages to rainwater harvesting:
CollectionThe collection system has a big influence on the quality and quantity of rainwater that ends up in the tank. We have extensive experience specifying the appropriate gutters, leaf screens and first-flush diverters to ensure the water collected is fit for the chosen end-uses. We assess the rainwater collection potential and design the gravity or charged pipework system to maximise rainwater collection.
|
StorageThere are so many options to store rainwater in steel, plastic, concrete and flexible bladders with diverse forms including round, slimline, folding, underfloor, and underground. We have a quick accurate assessment tool to help you compare the simulated rainwater collection for different tank sizes. We can specify the tank size, make and model, or give you the information to make your own choice.
|
SupplyHow best to supply rainwater depends on the required flow rate and pressure. Gravity feed is the most energy-efficient, but a pump is more practical for most home uses. We have the expertise to select and specify the most cost-effective and efficient pump and main water backup system, as well as any filters which are needed. We have specified rainwater pressure systems for projects ranging from playing field irrigation to just a single toilet.

“John Caley from Ecological Design designed both a rainwater harvesting system and stormwater drainage system for our residential property, as part of a major renovation to our house. John's work involved detailed drawings, plans and equipment specifications, including rainwater tanks, pumps, pipes, etc. A licensed plumber installed both systems to our complete satisfaction. John's advice and overall knowledge were very much appreciated, as was his prompt response to our enquiries regarding both systems. We would recommend John Caley."

AssessmentThe rainwater harvesting tool we developed crunches thirty years of real daily rainfall data from the nearest BOM weather station to simulate the amount of rainwater in the tank each day. It includes a function to simulate varying irrigation demand with season and weather (no irrigation in wet weather), as well as first-flush diverter losses.
By calculating the rainwater harvesting yield for ten different tank sizes simultaneously, it shows at a glance the size that achieve the most cost-effective balance of yield vs size. We can provide a rainwater harvesting assessment via email to help you size you rainwater tank.
