NathERS Home energy rating

The Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (or NatHERS Certificate) measures the efficiency of a home design to show compliance with BASIX or the NCC, or to review the energy efficiency of a design.

At Ecological Design, however,  we do more than just conduct a house energy rating.
We can also:
  • Provide advice on the most cost effective way to improve the energy efficiency of a dwelling
  • Advise on materials and specifications to optimise the thermal performance
  • Share online graphs of the results of each assessment
  • Produce plots of the temperature in a particular room if needed - eg. to show the heat build-up due to a west-facing window

"I am very pleased with the quality and detail of the energy analysis Ecological Design provides. It is a clear & definitive toolset I draw upon regularly to assist me in the refinement of energy efficiency of a design. John is always prompt, personable & efficient, & provides detailed information on which to found good design decisions. I thoroughly recommend Ecological Design's analysis service."

Cost

A House Energy Rating for a single dwelling costs between $550 and $950 depending on the complexity of the design and scope of the service. Prices per unit for multi-unit developments are significantly reduced where there are almost identical units. Contact us to request a free quote.

Time

Allow for an assessment to take between 2 days and a week depending on size and complexity.

Documentation

We will require a pdf set of architectural plans fully presenting the building fabric.
Also required are the construction and finishes of the main building elements and a survey showing the height and location of neighbouring buildings.

Actual vs simulated loads

The energy usage is the real-world completed house is likely to be different to the simulated energy usage because of occupant behaviour, thermal comfort preferences and the weather is likely to be significantly different from the standardised values used for the simulation. House energy rating is a good tool for comparing designs and specification, but should only be used with great caution to predict actual heating and cooling loads.
